Future Scientist

In science we learned about the structure and function of plants.  The students were able to dissect a flower and label the plant parts.  After learning about plants we are currently working on the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly.  The students have read books, watched videos, and worked on various art projects while learning about the Monarch Butterfly.  The fourth grade classes have also been observing this life cycle.  Milkweed has been collected and we have watched an egg hatch into a caterpillar.  Just this week a caterpillar formed its chrysalis and we are now waiting for a butterfly to emerge.  The students are making observations and recording them in their butterfly notebook.

We Love Science!!!!

What is STEM?  In the United States STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This year we have already completed some projects related to these fields.  In science the students were given a number of toothpicks and marshmallows and told to build a bridge.  The students had to use higher level thinking skills and brainstorm ways to complete their bridge.  Teamwork is a must in these projects as each group is given the materials, but must engineer their design on their own.
